Cambria County is recognizing yet another young graduate who is set to contribute to STEM fields and information technology. Zebulun James Lego, a resident of Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, has been attending as a student at the Pennsylvania State University is set to add yet another degree to his resume – A Bachelor’s of Science in Cybersecurity & Risk Analysis. Graduating as Cum Laude just last week from Penn State, Lego adds his name to the list of students who have recently graduated in Information and Technology within Cambria County, Pennsylvania. What sets Zebulun apart from the rest is the fact that he was also awarded a distinguished commendation from the United States Department of Homeland Security.
In addition to his new degree, Lego was surprised to receive two certificates. He received the Information, Sciences, and Technology Certificate as presented by the Pennsylvania State University. He was also bestowed the National Security Agency Certificate as presented by the United States National Security Agency.
When asked about his immediate future plans, Lego kicked his head back with a laugh. “I’ve been in school for the last 17 years of my life. I would say I’m taking a vacation, but really, I’m just waiting on the publication of my two papers.”
Unlike most seniors, Zebulun opted to try his hand at not one – but two senior theses’. The first of these involves an experimental research assessment that sought to determine what type of harm a large-language model powered by artificial intelligence might have on an end user. Lego was the leader of a team that identified popular psychological tests, ethical dilemmas, and personality tests that were then trialed through multiple AI-powered large-language models over a period of 6 months.
“The differences between the type of harm exhibited between different large-languages models is fascinating,” Lego starts, “and is both changing and staying the same due to updates provided by the companies that host these technologies”.
The second of these publications involves developing an program that would assist various industries in identifying compliances that they are responsible for fulfilling and how to close the gaps on compliances that they have not yet fulfilled.
“My team put a monumental amount of work into identifying what compliances industries seem to struggle with the most, and we developed the program around some of these compliances so that we could provide real-world examples of how Compliance Management could use this tool to their benefit.”
When asked about what type of career opportunities he was looking for moving forward, Lego did not hold back.
“I have the unfortunate and fortunate gift of living in Central Pennsylvania. While this may be the best state in the country to live in overall, it doesn’t have a great outlook for cybersecurity. I think that this will change considering the new and emerging threats to our personal data. Fortunately for me, there are infinitely more opportunities to work remotely from my home than there are traditional opportunities in my local area, so this provides a clear path for me to enjoy the best of both worlds.”
